In Uttar Pradesh, Mathura Police has arrested two brothers, residents of Aligarh, for allegedly selling firearms and cartridges to customers through a social media app and also recovered seven pistols and 40 live cartridges from their possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Gaurav Grover said that Bhura Singh and Shishupal Singh of Mirzapur village of Iglas police station area of Aligarh made social media a medium for illegal arms trade. According to the police officer, both used to first choose their customers through Facebook and then contacted them through Messenger app and used to sell weapons like firearms and cartridges.
Grover said, “Both the brothers were caught on Sunday near the BSNL office from Transport Nagar Chauraha in the Highway police station area on the basis of the information of the informer. During the search, five pistols (315 bore) and two pistols (32 bore) and 20 live cartridges were recovered from them. These two brothers first used to buy weapons from the arms makers, then used to sell them on social media after cracking them.
According to the police officer, a case has been registered against both of them under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act and they have been arrested.
