Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several projects related to Somnath temple in Gujarat through video conferencing on August 20 at 11 am. The projects to be inaugurated include Somnath promenade, Somnath Exhibition Center and the renovated temple complex of old (Juna) Somnath.
During the program, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Parvati temple.
Somnath Promenade has been developed under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Promotion Campaign) scheme at a total cost of over Rs 47 crore.
The Somnath Exhibition Centre, developed in the premises of the ‘Tourist Facilitation Centre’, displays the fragmented parts of the old Somnath temple and the Nagara style temple architecture sculptures of the old Somnath.
The renovated temple complex of old (Juna) Somnath has been completed by Shree Somnath Trust at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. This temple is also known as Ahilyabai Temple as it was built by Rani Ahilyabai of Indore.
Ahilya Bai had transformed the temple from ruins and converted it into a heritage. The entire old temple complex has been completely redeveloped for the safety and enhanced capacity of the pilgrims.
The Parvati temple is proposed to be constructed at a cost of Rs 30 crore. This includes the construction of the temple in the Sompura Salat style, the development of the sanctum sanctorum and the dance pavilion.
On this occasion, the Union Home Minister, Union Tourism Minister will be present along with the CM and Deputy CM of Gujarat.
