Netrikann Review: In Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun in 2018 or Sanjay Gupta’s Kaabil in 2017, the main characters of both the films were blind and still manage to face and eliminate the enemy by playing their tricks. If you liked both these movies, then it is guaranteed that you will also like the Tamil film Netrikan. Although the film is a bit lengthy and takes a long time to reach the climax, about 70-75% of the film is so good that you can’t take your eyes off the film. The film is worth watching, even though it is an official remake of the Korean film “Blind”.

In the last few years, Korean cinema became famous all over the world very quickly due to OTT. Thriller films ready masala for Hindi films. The story of Zinda, Ek Villain, Bharat, Rocky Handsome and even Radhe has been taken from Korean films. Some are official remakes and some are a case of piracy. Producers Hyunwoo Thomas Kim and Vinesh Sivan have bought the rights to “Blind”. Although this film of Aan Sang-hoon was not very stormy, but due to Nayantara in Tamil adaptation, the film has come to life. Nayantara and producer Vinesh are dating each other for 6 years and there is also an intention to get married. Recently superhit Tamil director Atlee (Theri, Mersal, Bigil) has signed Nayanthara for his first Hindi film opposite Shahrukh Khan.

Netrikan is the story of Durga (Nayantara), a CBI officer who loses her beloved half-brother and her own eyesight in an accident. As a blind man, she slowly tries to re-live her life when she mistakenly mistook a car for a taxi. The taxi driver tries to kidnap her but due to an accident, Durga is saved. On registering a complaint with the police, it is handed over to Manikandan, a police officer who is the most neglected policeman in the police station. On the strength of Durga’s memory, Manikandan tries to solve this case and also arrests the criminal on the testimony of a courier boy. The criminal runs away after killing him. Unaware of this time, Durga goes to her orphanage with that courier boy. The criminal reaches there and then Durga kills him in a scuffle in the dark.

There are four important characters in the film. Durga i.e. Nayantara who is the lead actress of the film. Doctor John i.e. Ajmal Amir who is the main culprit of the film and is mentally ill. Manikandan as a low-witted cop and Saran as a courier boy. Ajmal Amir has given Nayantara full opportunity to show her acting skills. The director has also redeemed it to the fullest. Known as the Lady Superstar in Tamil films, Nayanthara has played the role of a blind girl very well.

Because of this, his half-brother loses his life and his remorse is seen on his face throughout the film. In important scenes, the expressions on Nayantara’s face are clearly visible and the audience understands the reason for her popularity. Be it during the psycho killer’s phone calls or sitting on the seat opposite the psycho killer in the metro, Nayantara has acted powerfully, trying to restrain herself. Dilip Kesavan’s action is a bit violent according to the abilities of Nayantara and the resistance of the blind. Apart from Nayantara, no other actress could possibly do this kind of action.

Ajmal’s character is that of a gynecologist doctor who illegally aborts young girls. Actually he is a mental patient and that is why he has killed his wife. Ajmal is hated but not afraid. Although he has acted in many films, but seeing this film, it seems that there is still a lot to learn. His psycho attitude is weak. Manikandan has played the best character in the film. A low intelligence police officer whom his senior officers do not support at all and he also wants to solve the case by telling this to Durga and using the brain of his CBI officer. The audience’s love for the policeman is awakened from the very first scene so simple. Saran’s character in the role of Courier Boy Gautham is good, just a bit of maturity was lacking in the acting.

The story and screenplay of the film are similar to the Korean film, the dialogues are written by Naveen Sundaramurthy and Senthilkumar, which are normal. The rawest part left in the writing is the character of the villain. He commits all the crimes very easily and his story behind getting rid of unwanted pregnancies by becoming a gynecologist seems very strange. The reason for making it a psycho killer is very sad and seems somewhat odd. Editor Lawrence Kishore should have shown some work here. More than half the film is edited very well but after that, the film drags on till the climax. Many times it seems that now the film is over but the film still keeps moving forward.

The film should be seen for Nayanthara’s performance. Director Milind Rao has done well to direct. The tension remains for a long time that what will happen now, only the last 20 minutes were amazing. The film can be seen. In view of this. Tamil director Miskin’s film “Psycho” (2020) starring Udayanidhi Stalin and Aditi Rao Hydari may be remembered but there is a difference in the mood of both the films. There the hero is behind the villain and here the villain is behind the heroine. Look, you will like it.
