In Telangana’s Warangal district, a man kept his grandfather’s body in the refrigerator of his house as he reportedly did not have money to perform his last rites. The police gave this information on Thursday. He said his grandfather aged between 92-95 years had retired as headmaster and was drawing pension and was living with his grandson, while other members of his family live in Kamareddy district. On Thursday, some neighbors informed the police after foul smell emanating from the house. A senior police officer told PTI that the police found the body kept in the refrigerator. The officer said, “The man told the police that his grandfather used to lie on the bed recently due to ill health and died. After death, he initially wrapped the body with a sheet and later kept the body in the fridge. He told the police that he did it because he was unable to perform her last rites as he had no money.”
Police are also probing whether the 23-year-old man hid his grandfather’s body to ensure that his pension was not stopped, the official said. Based on the preliminary investigation, the official said that there are no external injury marks on the body of the elderly and he is likely to have died about six days back. However, they are also investigating whether any poisonous substance was given to them. Police said that at present a case of suspicious death has been registered.
