Indonesia reports 41,168 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 1,759 new deaths

JAKARTA, July 30 (Xinhua) — The number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 41,168 within the past 24 hours to 3,372,374, with the death toll adding by 1,759 to 92,311 on Friday.

During the past 24 hours, 44,550 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the total number of recoveries from the pandemic in the Southeast Asian country to 2,730,720, according to the ministry.

At present, the Indonesian government is implementing a multi-tiered community activity restriction scheme known locally as PPKM, aiming to reduce the daily COVID-19 tally.

The government is also intensifying contact tracing of individuals who are found to test positive for coronavirus.

As of Friday, at least 20.14 million people in the country have received two shots of vaccines, and the number of those who had been injected with the first doses reached 46.80 million, the health ministry reported.
