New Delhi:

The Indian government is serious about the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan. In a press note issued by the Government of India on the latest situation in Afghanistan, it has been said that in view of the current situation in Kabul, it has been decided that our embassy personnel will be brought to India immediately. Which has been completed in two phases. The Ambassador and all other India-based personnel have reached New Delhi this afternoon.

The Government of India said that in view of the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, we have been issuing travel and security advisories from time to time for all Indian citizens. Those already in Afghanistan were urged to return immediately while others were advised not to travel there. Nevertheless, we understand that there are many Indians stranded in that country, some of whom are employed by third country organisations, the government said. Our immediate priority is to get accurate information about all Indian nationals currently in Afghanistan. They or their employers are requested to immediately share the relevant details with the Special Afghanistan Cell of the Ministry of External Affairs:

As far as Afghan nationals are concerned, our visa services will continue through the e-emergency visa facility, which has been extended to Afghan nationals as well. This But can be accessed through our e-Visa portal. We have already received requests from leaders of the Afghan Sikh and Hindu community and we are in touch with them.

The main challenge for travel to and from Afghanistan is the operational status of the Kabul airport. This has been discussed at a high level with our partners, including the Secretary of State, with the US Secretary of State. The Government of India is committed to the safe return of all Indian nationals and will start flight arrangements once the Kabul airport opens for commercial operations.
