Mumbai. The petition of Raj Kundra, accused of making obscene films and broadcasting them through some apps, was debated in the Bombay High Court on Saturday. Senior public prosecutor Aruna Pai represented the police in the court. Let us tell you that Kundra had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court calling his arrest illegal, on which Kundra’s lawyer Aabad Ponda had presented his client’s side in the past. After this, on Saturday, public prosecutor Aruna Pai supported the action of the police. Due to a technical glitch in the video conferencing, Pai was unable to make her point, due to which the court has postponed the hearing of the case till Monday and said that a physical hearing will be held in the court on Monday.
The public prosecutor told the court that on February 5, 2021, an FIR was registered at the Malwani police station in Mumbai and then it was handed over to the crime branch. After this, a charge sheet was presented against 9 accused on 3 April.
Pai said that both the accused Raj Kundra and IT head Ryan Thorpe were involved in serious crimes. Both the accused used to make videos and upload them for streaming Hotshots App and BollyFame App. 51 pornography movies have been seized from these two apps.
The public prosecutor told the court that their personal laptops and SAN devices have been confiscated. On July 19, his office was searched in front of Raj and Ryan. We received a mail sent to Pradeep Bakshi, Kundra’s brother-in-law on the Hotshots app. Bakshi is the owner of Kenrin Private Limited in the UK. Raj Kundra was given notice under 41A of CrPC, but he refused to accept it. In the notice, Raj was asked to cooperate in the investigation, then he started deleting WhatsApp chats and evidence.
Aruna Pai further said that, when an accused starts destroying the evidence, the investigating agencies cannot remain mute spectators, they have to stop the accused. Raj Kundra was arrested to prevent destruction of evidence. After this, there was a technical problem in video conferencing from Pai’s side. After this, Justice Gadkari adjourned the hearing of the case and said that the next hearing of this case will be done physically on Monday.
